This article addresses common audio issues that artists may encounter while attempting to stream on Volume.com. If you are experiencing audio issues with your stream, you can also contact our Artist Support team at support@volume.com for in-depth troubleshooting assistance!
I/O not routed correctly
One of the first issues an artist may encounter is having their physical or digital input/output routed incorrectly. The first place to check would be your physical cables leading from your microphone or instrument into your preferred audio interface. Once you've ensured all your physical input/outputs are in the appropriate connections, you may move on to your digital I/O routing. You can access these by looking at your selected DAW or if your interface has a digital I/O routing software. If your digital I/O is set properly, you may wish to check your physical cables to sure there is no damage to the cables.
Sample Rate/Clocking Issue
This issue could be both digital and physical and is dependent entirely on your setup. Typically the industry standard for sample rate is 48 kHz (or 44.1 kHz for CDs).
If the Clock Source/Sample Rate is set incorrectly you may experience intermittent popping and clicking. To correct this, ensure your DAW's Clock Source/Sample Rate is set to the appropriate clocking for your hardware. These specifications are typically listed on the audio unit/interface or can be found on the manufacturer's website. Typically the settings in your DAW will be generally listed under Audio settings.
Wrong sound device defaulted
Ensure that your interface is set to default:
Windows
-
In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel, then select it from the results.
-
Select Hardware and Sound from the Control Panel, and then select Sound.
-
On the Playback tab, right-click the listing for your audio device, select Set as Default Device, and then select OK.
Mac
- Choose the Apple menu in the top left of your computer and click System Preferences.
- Click Sound and then click Output.
- Select the device you want to use as your main output device.
Latency (Hardware buffer size too high or low)
In order to correct latency, adjust buffer size lower within your DAW until any latency/delay is removed. We recommend a buffer size of 256 to 512 samples. While in this sample size, avoid using processor-intensive plug-ins to prevent bandwidth issues.
Interface drivers not installed/working
Your interface should work out of the box once you connect it to your computer, but if it is not working after connecting we recommend downloading the interface drivers from the manufacturer's website.
