Mobile Broadcasting: StreamLabs and Larix Guides

You can stream from your mobile device on Volume by using our in-browser broadcast tool or by using an external encoder app on your phone.  We provide guides for the following external encoder apps:

Mobile Broadcasting via Larix Broadcaster

Larix Broadcaster is a free open-source streaming application designed to work specifically with mobile devices. Larix allows you to encode and broadcast video and/or audio live content from your mobile device in real-time over WiFi, EDGE, 3G or LTE.

Install Larix from:
Once you have downloaded and opened Larix Broadcaster you will immediately arrive at the video capture screen. To access the broadcasting settings we need, tap the settings ‘cog’ as depicted below.

After clicking the settings ‘cog’ you will be greeted by the Larix settings screen. Tap on the ‘Connections’ tab to get started with your broadcast setup.

To add a connection, click the blue ‘+’ sign as highlighted in the orange box below.

Obtaining your Stream Key

To finish setting up your stream, navigate to the broadcast page on the desktop site at https://volume.com/b/ or click "Broadcast" at the top of the homepage.  Note: you will not be able to access this information on the mobile site.

On the Broadcast page, click the ‘View RTMP/OBS Broadcast Information and Stream Key’ button:

A white box will load that contains your broadcast token (stream key).  Copy this long string of numbers and letters.

If you accidentally give your stream key to anyone else, you can generate a new one using the "Generate New Token" button at the bottom of this popup.

Back in Larix, in the URL field enter the following information:

rtmp://live.volume.com/live-origin/PASTE-YOUR-BROADCAST-TOKEN-HERE
[[ NEED NEW SCREENSHOT ]]

Begin Your Broadcast!

Once you have entered your RTMP URL/Broadcast Token click Save in the top right, and click Back until you get back to the main screen showing the camera view. You are now ready to begin streaming. Simply hit the red record button and your audio and video will be broadcast.

Note: When using an external encoder, you will not be able to see users chatting to you on your broadcasting device. You will have to use a second device to see what users are saying.  You can do this by navigating to https://volume.com/b/ on another device.  On the broadcast page, you can monitor your stream quality and chat with viewers in your room.

When you are ready to end your broadcast, you can do so by clicking the record button again.

Important note! If you do not stop streaming in Larix, your stream will continue even if you have closed out of all windows in your browser and logged out of your Volume account. Once complete you MUST stop streaming in the Larix application to end your broadcast.
